serve
Faith without works is dead (see James 2:14-18). Help us as we go beyond just comfortably doing church...and actually start being the church.
Shelter Meal
Once a quarter, both the young singles and the young marrieds prepare and serve dinner to the homeless and hungry at The Shelter on a Friday night. We begin in the FBC kitchen at 5:30 PM and are usually finished by 8:30 PM. If you would like to join us, contact Josh Hall.
Springtime Tallahassee
When our community comes downtown to celebrate springtime, we open our doors and offer our restrooms, a baby changing area, and a comfort station for senior adults.
Vacation Bible School
What would summer break be without Vacation Bible School? Each year young adults at First Baptist help to make VBS happen. This week-long event involves Bible stories, games, and activities that all share God's love with children in Tallahassee.
Builders for Christ
Every summer a team of volunteers from First Baptist joins with teams from other churches across the nation to help a church in need of construction, renovation, and/or repair. For more information, contact Richard Tudor.
Mission Trip
In order to allow Christ to work both in us and through us, we send a team of young adults to get their hands dirty helping those is desperate need. In 2009, we ministered to two rural towns in Costa Rica. In 2010, 2011, and 2012, we sent mission teams to Haiti to work with local pastors to build shelters and houses, host kids camps, lead neighborhood evangelism, and provide discipleship training. In 2013, we're planning to return to the same community in Haiti.
Snacks for Internationals
Several times throughout the year, we provide a light meal/snacks for the students in our English classes for internationals.
First Love
Since 2003, First Baptist Church has set aside one day each year for a churchwide day of service to the community. As a part of First Love, hundreds of volunteers each year participate in dozens of ministry projects throughout Tallahassee.
Operation Christmas Child
In addition to First Baptist's support of Operation Christmas Child, the young adults collect items for the shoeboxes and finish off the effort with a shoebox packing party in November.
Winter Festival
When the temperature drops and the downtown lights come on, we once again open our doors and offer our restrooms, a baby changing area, and a comfort station for senior adults...plus some hot coffee.
Contact Josh to get more information about any of these service opportunities. Also be sure to check out other opportunities to serve in and through First Baptist Church.
