FIRST FOCUS

WHEN I GROW UP
Paula Poundstone is a comedienne who was popular some years ago.  In one of her stand-up routines, she delivered a line that I have always remembered.  “The reason that adults are always asking kids what they want to be when they grow up is because they’re looking for ideas.”  Her point was that all of us have some work to do in our efforts at maturing, and few of us have a clue as to how we should be proceeding.  [more+]

SERVE IN HIS NAME

  • Have you ever wanted to learn how to operate a TV camera or the sound board for a worship service?  Her is your chance!  The media ministry is looking for volunteers who are interested in advancing the message of Christ through audio and video technologies.  If you feel the Lord calling you to serve the church in a hands-on, behind-the-scenes capacity, contact Lee Shell.  Training will be provided; the only requirement is a willingness to serve joyfully!

  • The 7th annual Haiti Fundrasier will be held Saturday, February 13, from 11:00AM - 2:00PM at the home of Janet Ray (3431 Woodley Road - off Timberlane Road).  It will include a luncheon, silent auction of Haitian items, live music, and the Haiti Hope Tree.  FSU’s Caribbean Combo and Leon High’s steel drum band will provide entertainment on the front porch.  It will be a lot of fun, and a great time of fellowship!

Tickets are $10 or by donation and will be on sale through the SMBS departments or committee members.  You can also make a reservation by calling 893.4207 for a reservation and pay at the door.  We still need musicians, cooks, hostesses, parking attendants - you name it!  If you would like to help, call the number above.  Hope to see you there!  For other giving options, see the Haiti Hope Trees in the welcome center, and check out fbctlh.org/hopeforhaiti for pictures and more information.

  • Florida Baptist Children’s Home January Request : Personal care products
    • Our January request includes such products as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, bath gel, bar soap, deodorant, etc.  We want to help the children develop good personal care habits.

  • Church volunteers are needed to help Weekday Education Parents find parking spaces and to assist them entering and exiting the Church parking lot.  The need for assistance is Monday through Friday, 7:30-8:30AM and 4:30-5:30PM. Sign-up sheets are in each SMBS department, or you can contact Joyce in the church office at x121.

  • Please take this opportunity to check the flower board in the Welcome Center.  There are many Sundays open for you to place flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one or for a special occasion.  Your gift of flowers will be appreciated by all, especially those who receive the small bouquets each Monday morning made from Sunday’s flowers.
