BREAKOUT SESSION #3 :: Saturday 1:00-2:15 PM
The following sessions will be available Saturday afternoon. Choose the one that most interests you.

*Communication: Can You Hear Me Now?
Leon & Joan Cassels
In today’s culture there seems to be a lot of talking, overtalking, etc. – in meetings, conversations, and serious discussions. But is anyone really listening? We will discuss God’s guidelines for communication (which work!) and then see how we can apply His guidelines to our “not always successful” communication skills (written, verbal, and non-verbal).  After 47+ years of being married, we have discovered many ways of communicating that do not work well. We will all keep a good sense of humor as we discuss this critically important issue together.

Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse: How You Can Help
Zack & Laura Summerlin
Although we may prefer to overlook uncomfortable subjects, the prevalence of domestic violence and substance abuse within our society remains too high and the impact too costly to ignore. As a church and as individuals, we are called to respond. This session will provide general guidelines and practical steps for helping those dealing with these issues. Topics will include how to identify warning signs, ground rules for healthy relationships, and how to safely minimize risks.

Estate Planning 101, or What Happens to My Stuff When I Die?
Carl Monson
You have noticed that everyone is an optimist when it comes to estate planning, right? They always start by asking, “If I die…?” Believe it or not, you will sleep better after you have made an estate plan for your family. This session is designed to answer some basic questions Christians have when contemplating estate planning and to help you become acquainted with the vocabulary of “estate/probate” talk, such as last will and testament, living will, living trust, health surrogate, power of attorney, and estate tax, and so on. We will also look at what the Bible says about estate planning and help you become aware of the stewardship implications when considering how to look after your family after your death.

*Forgiveness and Reconciliation: If It Was Easy, Anyone Could Do It
Josh Hall
Sooner or later, people let you down. Sometimes, they even hurt you.  And sometimes, you’re the one who has hurt others. One of the clearest marks of a follower of Christ is the ability to seek forgiveness when you’re wrong and to extend forgiveness to others in your life. During this session, we will examine what the Bible teaches us about forgiveness and look at a biblical process for pursuing reconciliation.

The Never to Be Forgotten Legacy: Grandparenting
Nancy Buhler
Providing hugs and sippy cups may be the first requirement for grandparenting, but isn’t there a somewhat magical connotation that goes along with the cherished title, Grandparent? Grandparenting seems to be taking on additional roles, in this challenging, ever-changing world of little people. Children, even toddlers, find their minds, hearts, and allegiances being pulled in numerous directions with the fast pace of life and technology. Perhaps God calls us to offer another important “safe place” in their lives. How can we enhance the lives of our grandchildren, making certain we are sharing within the parenting goals and techniques of Mom and Dad, and yet give our own pizzazz for memories and legacy? Come prepared to share your most recent discovery of “Grandparent Energizers!”

*The Spiritual Disciplines: Connections to the Source
Penny Folsom
If your desire is to draw nearer to Christ and enjoy a more intimate connection with Him, this session is designed to help you along that journey. Together we will explore the Christian disciplines as outlined by Richard Foster in his book, “Celebration of Discipline.” Discussion will center on how we can be transformed into the likeness of Christ and more fully enjoy His presence as we learn to “celebrate” these practices and integrate them into our daily lives.

Understanding Your Teenager
Dr. Jim Burns
Parenting and grandparenting are difficult, and we all need help guiding teens through the rough waters of adolescence. This session is for parents and grandparents of teenagers and is designed to help you learn what to expect during the teen years and how to parent your teens with greater confidence, love, and understanding.

Understanding Your Parents
Todd Smith
Having parents isn’t always easy either. This session is designed for middle school and high school students to help you understand and get along with those annoying people who love you the most.

What I Know About Parenting
Nathan & Heather Adams
God is the perfect Father. He is patient, wise, just, loving, understanding, etc. We love Him because of who He is, and He reveals part of who He is in the way He deals with us as His children. The way we deal with our children reveals a lot about us as well. We will discuss the mistakes we have made, the successes we have had, and the things God has taught us along this journey as parents that will continue throughout our lives.

What’s Involved in Career Choice?
Dr. Byron Folsom
Selecting a career can be one of life’s most meaningful—and intimidating—experiences. This session will explain and discuss each of the steps involved in making and executing a career decision, including the importance of thoroughly addressing each step. More emphasis will be placed on the areas that you the participants indentify as needs. Wherever you are in the process, guidance and resources will be offered to help you make progress in your career decision making.

You and Your Health: It’s Not What You Know, It’s What You Want
Joy Hooks, MSN, CRNP
Why do we have thousands of weight loss products on the market, yet we continue to be the most obese nation? Why do we continue to see Americans die of diseases that are highly preventable? Why do you keep choosing an unhealthy lifestyle for you and your loved ones? How can you change this trend for yourself and future generations? Learn how you should to eat, how much you need to exercise, and how to change your overall health.

*These sessions are also available Friday evening during Breakout Session #1.
