BREAKOUT SESSION #1 :: Friday 7:15-8:30 PM
The following sessions will be available Friday evening. Choose the one that most interests you.
*Communication: Can You Hear Me Now?
Leon & Joan Cassels In today’s culture there seems to be a lot of talking, overtalking, etc. – in meetings, conversations, and serious discussions. But is anyone really listening? We will discuss God’s guidelines for communication (which work!) and then see how we can apply His guidelines to our “not always successful” communication skills (written, verbal, and non-verbal). After 47+ years of being married, we have discovered many ways of communicating that do not work well. We will all keep a good sense of humor as we discuss this critically important issue together. Connecting the Dots Financially
Jan Smith Looking for ways to become a better steward of what God has given you to manage? Discover resources to help you stretch dollars, reduce debt, and plan for the future (e.g., college, retirement). Imagine the opportunities of service when we free up our money by reducing debt and expenses, focus on God’s kingdom when making financial decisions, and follow His commandment to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” DivorceCare: You Don’t Have to Go Through It Alone!
Jenna Young Come find help, discover hope, and experience healing during and after your divorce. DivorceCare helps you deal with the pain of the past and provides support and encouragement as you rebuild your life. Personal testimonies and an overview of a DivorceCare seminar will be presented in this session. A 13-week DivorceCare seminar will follow for interested participants. Those who have experienced the pain of divorce will lead the DivorceCare seminar, which will include video presentations by top experts on divorce and recovery subjects such as anger, loneliness, new relationships, finances, sexuality, forgiveness, reconciliation, and more. *Forgiveness and Reconciliation: If It Was Easy, Anyone Could Do It Josh Hall Sooner or later, people let you down. Sometimes, they even hurt you. And sometimes, you’re the one who has hurt others. One of the clearest marks of a follower of Christ is the ability to seek forgiveness when you’re wrong and to extend forgiveness to others in your life. During this session, we will examine what the Bible teaches us about forgiveness and look at a biblical process for pursuing reconciliation. Parenting: Age-Appropriate Behaviors and Discipline Dr. Calvin Zongker As parents, we must carefully consider our expectations of our children, especially as they age and develop. This breakout session will focus on behaviors that are typical of children whose ages vary from preschool though elementary grades. Parenting guidelines for dealing with desirable and undesirable behaviors also will be examined, and the sharing of experiences will be encouraged. *The Spiritual Disciplines: Connections to the Source
Penny Folsom If your desire is to draw nearer to Christ and enjoy a more intimate connection with Him, this session is designed to help you along that journey. Together we will explore the Christian disciplines as outlined by Richard Foster in his book, “Celebration of Discipline.” Discussion will center on how we can be transformed into the likeness of Christ and more fully enjoy His presence as we learn to “celebrate” these practices and integrate them into our daily lives. What’s Your Love Language? Fran Buhler If you don’t know the answer, that’s okay. Join the club. Most of us don’t – without some help. But if you want to marry, if you’re planning to marry, or if perhaps you are already married, you are at a distinct disadvantage and dangerously ill-equipped if you don’t know your love language, plus the preferred language of your spouse. Come on in and reap both the relational joy and the personal satisfaction of loving, and receiving love, via the right love language. What you will hear isn’t psycho-babble or self-help, but proven keys to understanding your own love language, and the preferred language of your spouse. Once we learn one another’s preferred love language, love and marriage become so much more meaningful and joyful. Just the way God intended! *These sessions are also available Saturday afternoon during Breakout Session #3.
