Deacon Ordination Service
This Sunday, 6:00 pm, Sanctuary

Join us Sunday evening as we ordain incoming deacon Jodie Dodson for the 2008 year.

Sermon Series:
"Beliefs That Build Community"

The coming days will be filled with excitement as we position ourselves for extending our witness into the community. Our church’s vision is to grow up and grow out. But as everyone knows, buildings are only good as their foundations. Actions flow from beliefs. So, let’s consider what the essence of our belief is in order that the community we endeavor to build will honor Christ and strengthen our church.

January 6: “God: Multi-Tasker or Sole Proprietor?” (1 Peter 1:1-2)
January 13: “Creation: No Roll of the Dice” (2 Timothy 1:8-10)
January 20: “Humankind: Hapless But Not Helpless” (Psalm 42:1-5)
January 27: “Salvation: You’ve Got a Friend” (Romans 5:6-11)
February 3:
“Christ: It’s Who You Know” (John 14:1-7)
February 10: “The Church: Fit to Be Tried” (Ephesians 4:11-16)
February 17: “The Consummation: What’s Next?” (Revelation 22:1-7)

Need a Hand?
Our college students are looking for odd jobs (yard work, window cleaning, raking leaves, etc.) to earn scholarship money for upcoming college ministry activities such as Spring Retreat, Challenge and Mission Trips. If you are interested and need an extra hand contact the Student Ministry Office at 222-5470 x421. Thank you for your help and support of our college students.

Honor a Loved One with Flowers
The 2008 Flower Calendar is located in the Welcome Center.

Take advantage of a clean calendar and sign up to place flowers in the sanctuary in honor or memory of a loved one. Questions? Call Lenoir at 222-5470 ext. 201.

Make a Change with Soup Labels!
For many years First Baptist members have been collecting Campbell’s soup labels to send to our missionaries. The missionaries use these to receive various items for their work from the Campbell’s Soup Company -- after school supplies, games, computers, sports equipment, even much needed buses!
Campbell’s Soup Company still plans to continue this program, but they are now requiring that the UPC Bar Code symbol on the back of the soup label be sent in instead of the front label. Be sure to save your bar codes and give them to Jean Fernald or leave them in the church office. This is such an easy way to make a huge difference!

Florida Baptist Children's Home
JANUARY REQUEST: POP TARTS, CEREAL, CEREAL BARS

FBC members donate items each month to the Tallahassee campus of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home (fbchomes.org), which has been helping children and families since 1904.
Pop tarts, cereal bars, cereal—all favorite foods for the children. They provide a quick breakfast on a school morning and are often enjoyed as an afternoon snack. Collection bins are in the College Avenue foyer, the Welcome Center, and by the elevator on the first floor.

Dear Church Family,
Your contributions to the Guatemala Christmas Offering totaled $2716.35! Your generous gifts exceeded the cost of the Christmas meal for the girls at the Manchen Home in Antigua, which will result in them receiving special treats beyond Christmas.
Buckner International has confirmed that all of our gifts will be used to help the girls at Manchen. The excess contributions may be used for other special meals or to supplement their daily diet of beans and rice with meat, fresh fruit and desserts. The Buckner staff in Guatemala has been instructed to determine how to best use the funds to benefit all the girls. They will inform us of how the girls will be helped.
The Buckner Officials asked that we convey their appreciation for the love, prayers and financial support you have given the sweet and needy girls in Manchen. We join in expressing our thanks for your generosity. It is a joy and a blessing to belong to such a caring and loving church family that gives not out of obligation but out of their love for Christ. As Doug wrote in his recent weekly column, “God Loves a Cheerful Giver!” We love you too.
-Bob and JoAnn Pullen

A big thank you to all who helped make the staff Christmas party such a success! Your gifts, both financially and physically, were greatly appreciated.
-John Chafin
