Life's Big Questions
July 29 - August 19

Whoever said it first said it best. “Life is difficult.” Part of the difficulty lies in the questions life poses. They’re big questions to be sure. But faith does not fear life’s big questions, because faith has big answers.

July 29: "Who Am I?" Genesis 1:26-27
August 5: "Where Am I Going?" Proverbs 19:21
August 12: "What Do I Believe?" 2 Timothy 1:8-12
August 19: "What Difference Can I Make?" Matthew 17:20

First Love 2007
October 13, Projects Currently Requested!

Mark your calendars for this year’s First Love mission blitz! Every year over 500 people join us in a community ministry effort that aids our neighbors, local non-profit and missions organizations, healthcare and retirement facilities and so much more! If you know of an individual or organization in need of repairs, a few helping hands, a friendly presence or any other sort of assistance, let us know! Email the name of the agency or individual, contact names and phone numbers, and the type of project to be done to firstlove@fbctlh.org.

Lillian Isaacs Literacy Missions Award
Nominations Now Accepted

Lillian Isaacs, a faithful member of First Baptist and the International Ministry, will be recognized this year by the Florida Southern Baptist Convention with an award named in her honor. Though Miss Lillian passed on in March of this year, her efforts to pioneer literacy missions throughout the country will long be remembered.
Nominations are now open for individuals who exemplify the same passion for literacy missions as Miss Lillian. If you would like to nominate someone who has worked with literacy missions for at least two years and is currently serving in this ministry, please pick up a nomination form in the front office. The award will consist of an individual gift and a monetary gift to the recipient’s literacy missions program. All nominations must be submitted to the convention by August 17.

“Give-Away Days” for
FSU International Students

August 17-18

A new school year is approaching, and many international students will arrive with only a few suitcases and very few resources for an apartment. The FSU Baptist Collegiate Ministry needs your help to show Jesus’ love to these students by donating quality new or used furniture, small appliances, and kitchen items to the BCM! Donations are accepted throughout the year, but the main “give-away days” are August 17-18. Tax donation letters are available. Please contact the BCM at fsubcm@fsubcm.org or 222-4444.

Florida Baptist Children's Home
AUGUST REQUEST: FOOD STORAGE PRODUCTS

FBC members donate items each month to the Tallahassee campus of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home (fbchomes.org), which has been helping children and families since 1904.
Thank you for your July donations. Jean Fernald delivered your very generous supply of greeting cards for all occasions. What a great selection! We appreciate the faithful support of our First Baptist friends.
This month we are requesting food storage items. Plastic food containers in all sizes would be a great help for both refrigerator and freezer storage. We also use gallon size plastic freezer bags as well as regular plastic bags in all sizes. School will be starting this month so we’ll be packing lunches again. Collection bins are in the College Avenue foyer, the Welcome Center, and by the elevator on the first floor.

Dear First Baptist Church members and staff:
Thank you so much for the love and support you showed our family during the recent illness and death of our sweet mother (and grandmother) Catherine Tharpe. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years where she had so many loving and faithful friends. We appreciate the Christian concern which you expressed to us over the past few weeks. We were truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from our Church in the days leading up to her death and the days that followed.
The memorial service was a wonderful tribute to her life and to God’s grace for all of us. We want to thank Doug, Mike, Penny and Leon Cassels for making the service so meaningful for our family. While we will miss her dearly, we know that she is with our Heavenly Father and those who have gone on before us. One day, we will all be together again. Praise God.
In Christian love,
Bill and Pris Tharpe and Family
