Hurricane Relief Clothing Drive
Have you pulled out your SUMMER CLOTHES and found a few VERY NICE items that you could share with some of the hurricane victims in Louisiana? Chalmette, LA and the entire St. Bernard Parish was flooded during hurricane Katrina. Some houses were flooded up to the rooftops and people lost most of their clothes along with so many other things.
As you can imagine, people cannot replace their entire wardrobe in a short period after losing almost everything else. As an outreach to its community, First Baptist Church of Chalmette, LA will be giving clothing away at its church site during this summer’s reconstruction of its church buildings by Builders For Christ. When First Baptist of Tallahassee’s Builders For Christ team goes to Chalmette in June, we would like to take clothing for distribution there. Here’s how you can help.

1. By the end of this week, go through your closet and find 4 or 5 VERY NICE articles of SUMMER clothing that you would like to make available to be given away by First Baptist Church of Chalmette.

2. Place a piece of masking tape on the front top of the article identifying the size and whether it is a men’s, women’s, boy’s or girl’s item and its size.

3. Sort the clothes into the following groups, put them into trash bags, and label the trash bags (even if there is only 1 item in a bag) as follows:
a. men’s pants
b. men’s shirts
c. women’s pants
d. women’s tops
e. children’s

4. Drop the very nice, barely worn summer clothes off at the church office. If you have questions, contact Richard Tudor at tudorrn@yahoo.com or
386-5424.

Florida Baptist Children's Home
JUNE REQUEST: PICNIC SUPPLIES

FBC members donate items each month to the Tallahassee campus of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home (fbchomes.org), which has been helping children and families since 1904.
School is out and summer vacation will bring time for picnics. Paper products such as plates, cups, napkins, towels, and plastic eating utensils would be great for some of our summer meals. Collection bins are in the College Avenue foyer, the Welcome Center, and by the elevator on the first floor.

Begin your “discovery” on the first Sundays in June, the 3rd and the 10th. If you’re out of town, come the following Sundays. We’ll still let you in! The new Discovery Bible study group for adults gets underway at 9:30 am in D-300, located in the Duval Wing on the west side of the sanctuary, on the third floor at the top of the stairwell facing the Capitol.
If you enjoy contemporary worship at 11:00 am and want to get connected with other 11 o’clock worshipers, this new small group Bible study is just for you!
Discovery Bible study will be taught by Marty Stubblefield, a faithful husband and father of three. Marty is a deacon, local banker and businessman, and an avid “hoopster” who still has memories. He will be leading studies that focus on key Biblical topics of interest to you.

International Ministry News
On Thursday, May 17th, the International Ministry of First Baptist Church concluded a most successful year of English classes. Our volunteers: teachers, refreshment coordinators, drivers, musicians, child care providers and secretaries have done a marvelous job this year.

We want to say a sincere ‘thank you’ to the Bible study classes, WMU groups and individual persons who provided the refreshments for an entire session…your food was enjoyed by our students and the love with which it was given blessed everyone. Hardly a class went by without someone saying, “Who brought this food and why did they do it?” Our answer was always, “the people in our church provided the refreshments because they love you.” You can’t have a better witness for the love of Jesus than this! It is foreign missions right here at home.

This year we averaged over one hundred per week in our classes, which included students from over thirty countries. Several of our students have begun to attend Sunday Bible study. Praise the Lord.

Now we look forward to September and another opportunity to reach many who have never heard of Jesus and, unless we are faithful, may never hear. Please pray for the International Ministry and ask God how you and your group can be actively involved next year. We need everyone, we really do!
